Mike Denklau Attacks Steve King for Partisanship, Distractions
Denklau for Congress.com
At first look, Steve King challenger Mike Denklau may not seem like someone you would expect to be able to put an end to the long Iowa nightmare of Steve King's tenure in Congress, but even if he does not end up ousting Iowa's most embarassing congressman ever, he definitely has a resume that spells success. A 4th generation Iowa native who grew up on a farm, in his brief 26 years, he has collected a set of life experiences that balance his rural roots. According to the campaign website:
Elsewhere, I read that Denklau worked at Lehman Brothers. Check out the campaign website for even more surprising and impressive stuff in Denklau's bio, then if you live in the 5th and don't care for Rep. King, do something for your country and state by contacting the campaign and giving them a hand. If you don't live in Iowa's 5th, you can still contribute. No one thought Loebsack would beat Leach in 2006, either. So get out there and fight!
Here's what Denklau had to say this week about Steve King's most recent antics.
Council Bluffs, IA - Rep. King remains focused on partisan distractions instead of the issues that impact the day-to-day lives of Iowans. First, it was the letter writing campaign in favor of South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson. Now, Rep. King has squandered nearly two weeks talking about Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary of education for the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools.
In the two weeks Steve King has focused on a letter writing campaign concerning a low ranking official in Washington, D.C., Iowa's official unemployment rate has continued to close in on 7% and the state has announced a 10% budget cut that will result in the layoff of thousands of public employees, likely including the loss of 100 law enforcement officers and thousands of education jobs.
In these two weeks of yet more distractions by Steve King, thousands of Iowans living in the 5th District either have no access to affordable healthcare or are experiencing the high costs of the current inefficient healthcare system that Steve King supports.
In these two weeks of yet more distractions by Steve King, thousands of businesses in the 5th District have experienced difficulty in obtaining financing for new business ventures because of Steve King's consistent failure to support sound market practices.
As stated in his announcement remarks last week, Congressional candidate Mike Denklau is running to provide leadership focused on the economic needs of Iowans and creating opportunities in the 5th District. Recognizing the need for new and better jobs in the 5th District, Denklau strongly supports revitalizing our farming communities through the passage of legislation to expand wind energy production. Expanding wind energy to 20% of our nation's electricity generation would bring nearly 60,000 construction jobs to Iowa and create over 9,000 long-term operational jobs that pay upwards of $20 per hour.
Denklau believes it's time to move beyond the partisanship that plagues our political system. Western Iowa and America deserve effective leadership focused on the issues that really matter to our communities and our businesses.~
