Vermont's Howard BEAN Café Seeks New Owner

What do you call a Vermont coffee shop owned by a Deaniac?  The Howard BEAN Caf
é, of course!

Patrick Mullikin is on a campaign to find a new candidate to take on Howard BEAN.

Mullikin, who owns Montpelier’s Riverwalk Records and the Howard BEAN Café, a State Street store/café that sells rare and collectible records and serves up coffee and live music, is selling the caf
é.  He’s looking for a buyer who isn’t interested in changing the store a whole lot.

”As our café continues to gain a national following, we want to be certain that the person who takes over is truly the ideal candidate and will continue to serve a no-frills, affordable cup of coffee. None of that $4-a-cup, whoop-de-do, latte-boca-cucaracha-grande nonsense,” Mullikin says,  “The Howard BEAN is, after all, a café for America.  The ideal owner would be someone within the Dean network.”

On Election Day 2004, Mullikin opened the Howard BEAN Café, a place to get coffee and hear live music. The Central Vermont Democracy for America (formerly Dean for America) holds its monthly Meetup meetings there. Howard Dean sent Mullikin a signed photograph wishing him luck in his venture.
