Chuck Grassley, Chief Enabler, Helps Bush Peddle Snake Oil This Week at Town Hall Meetings

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Ia., is overseeing the overhaul [gutting] of Social Security in Congress. Here is a list of his town meetings this week, at which Iowans can ask about Social Security or any other subject.


MONDAY
11:30 a.m.: Hamilton County Town Hall Meeting, Webster City City Hall, council chambers, 400 Second St., Webster City.

1:45 p.m.: Hardin County Town Hall Meeting, Eldora City Hall, council chambers, 1442 Washington St., Eldora.

3:45 p.m.: Franklin County Town Hall Meeting, Hampton City Hall, council chambers, 122 First Ave. N.W., Hampton.

TUESDAY
11 a.m.: Clayton County Town Hall Meeting, Central State Bank, community room, 200 N. Main St., Elkader.

1 p.m.: Delaware County Town Hall Meeting, Manchester Public Library, meeting room, 300 N. Franklin St., Manchester.

3 p.m.: Jones County Town Hall Meeting, Jones County Courthouse, community room, 500 W. Main St., Anamosa.

5 p.m.: Jackson County Town Hall Meeting, Jackson County Courthouse, community room, 201 W. Platt St., Maquoketa.

WEDNESDAY
7:30 a.m.: Clinton County Town Hall Meeting, Clinton County Administrative Building, meeting room B, 1900 N. Third St., Clinton.

Noon: Muscatine County Town Hall Meeting, Muscatine City Hall, council chambers, 215 Sycamore St., Muscatine.

2 p.m.: Cedar County Town Hall Meeting, Cedar County Courthouse, large meeting room, basement, 400 Cedar St., Tipton.

4:45 p.m.: Benton County Town Hall Meeting, Vinton City Hall, council chambers, 110 W. Third St., Vinton.

TAKE ACTION:  If you can, attend a meeting armed with a few questions.  Here are some  possibilities: 

 - Ask Sen. Grassley if it is true that all they would have to do to "fix" Social Security is eliminate one of the Bush tax cuts.

 - Ask him to explain “progressive indexing.” 

 - Ask if it is it true that a worker earning $37,000 per year before retirement would see a benefit cut of 28 percent and someone earning $58,000 would suffer a 42 percent cut?  And someone earning $90,000 would face benefit cuts of 49 percent?

 - Why is the Bush Administration calling this an emergency when the Congressional Budget Office characterizes Soc. Security financing as a minor problem with the trust fund projected to last until 2052?
