Good News Out of North Carolina
by Max Mattia, DFNC
Max Mattia is a Deaniac and impressive state group grassroots organizer
in North Carolina. Several months ago, Alta and I were on a phone
call with a number of other people from Iowa and Max happened to be on that
call. He's really got it together, so of course, Alta and I were
trying to figure out how we could get him to move to Iowa. No
luck in that department, I'm afraid. However, he may be right
where he is needed most. Read this update I got from him last
night. You need to get your hopes up that we CAN do this
thing? Max offers up some great local political analysis that may
have a major impact on the race for the presidency.
We are
kicking major *ss in Wake County and Durham here in North
Carolina. Our grassroots are mobilizing like they never have
before. Daily canvassing of target precincts, massive reachout to
the Latino and African American community. Registering new Dems at an
unprecedented rate. Hundreds of volunteers coming out of the woodwork.
Political
analysts believe that if Wake County [goes Democrat] by 15% that Dems
will win NC, and if Dems win NC it is near impossible for Bush to win
the electoral college, and if Bush can't win electoral college
votes ... then fiascos like Florida don't matter.
So ... preventing Florida from happening again is in the volunteer hands of Wake County!!!
NET voter registration for Wake County August 6 - September 10
DEM 3053 42.8%
REP 1986 27.8%
UNA 2057 28.8%

Al Franken In Ottumwa at Noon Today!

Al Franken In Ottumwa at Noon Today!
This was posted this morning on the Bartcop Nation forum. Thanks to Mark in Carlisle for alerting Blog for Iowa.
White House Fight Targets Ottumwa
Al
Franken, outspoken liberal comedian and former "Saturday Night Live"
performer, will be in Ottumwa at the Central Park at noon for a public
rally. He will be targeting Cheney's connection to Haliburton. Cheney
intends to be here the following morning at the Ottumwa Industrial
Airport.
Keep in
mind, this county is hotly contested because of our history of voting
heavily for Democratic candidates. It is very important that we have an
outstanding turnout for the Al Franken rally. If you are at all close
to Ottumwa, please take time to come see him. We want to make a strong
statement to the Republicans that we will be voting for a Kerry/Edward
ticket Nov. 2.
It may
seem to you that your presence won't matter, but I can assure it does.
When we are fortunate enough to get media coverage for a Democratic
event, it's important that we come out in force to provide an
enthusiastic crowd for it. We don't just want to win in November. We
want to win big! We don't want another fine margin of error that a
Supreme Court can decide. Help us to a resounding victory in November.
Come meet Al Franken Sunday at noon at Central Park.
Oh,
those poor folks in Ottumwa get a visit from Cheney tomorrow?
Quick, lock all your doors and windows. The junta is
coming!

Abortion Ban Ruled Unconstitutional
Planned Parenthood Action Network
Attorney
General John Ashcroft struck out Wednesday, as the third of three
federal judges, this one in Nebraska, ruled that the federal abortion
ban is unconstitutional and cannot be enforced.
"[This] ruling should be a cease and desist order for Attorney General
Ashcroft and his taxpayer-funded anti-choice pursuits," said PPFA
President Gloria Feldt.
Our
friends on Capitol Hill fought this dangerous legislation year after
year and they deserve a big THANK YOU for their hard work in staying
the course. These decisions are vindications of their votes and they
should be proud.
Take a
moment to thank your members of Congress who voted to oppose the
abortion ban legislation when it was in Congress and let them know they
were right!
to send a thank you letter to your member/s of Congress. Once you
fill in your information, the site will fill in the member/s of
Congress who voted for choice.
