Andrew Smith: Traer Democrat Determined To Beat Republican Incumbent
This energetic young man caucused for Dean! Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier TRAER --- Andrew Smith always knew he would run for public office. He just didn't know it would be this soon. The 25-year-old Democrat says the fire in his belly was ignited during an incident last spring. While attending a late night session of the Senate appropriations committee Smith was appalled at the indifference some legislators in the Republican-controlled Legislature showed toward a multi-billion dollar budget spending plan. He was an intern for Sen. Bob Kreiman, a Democrat from Bloomfield. [In June] - less than three months later - Smith formally announced he would fight incumbent Rep. Lance Horbach, a Tama Republican, for the District 40 seat in the Iowa House of Representatives. The district encompasses all of Grundy County and most of Tama County. The Drake University law school student may be on the young side to run for a seat in the Iowa House of Representatives --- candidates must be 21. But he's confident voters will like his platform. Kerry Picks Edwards For VP
Whew! Well, it could have been much worse, I say. If it had been Gephardt, as payback for the murder/suicide of Howard Dean in Iowa, I would have taken to my bed with a sick headache. As it is, John Edwards is an inoffensive, if inexperienced, choice. I won't bore you with the fluff about his selection that Kerry sent out in his email. Read more about it here and here.

And While We're All Waiting For The Big News, An Article About Howard Dean...
New York Metro Just as the elevator doors were closing, a loud gasp came from the crowd inside. They’d just realized that the compact, graying man in the dark suit and button-down white shirt, awaiting an up elevator, was indeed Howard Dean. “I love it when that happens,” says Dean, mimicking the astonished looks. “I feel like I’m constantly in an Alfred Hitchcock movie these days—I pop up in places that normal people do, and they don’t expect it. It’s a cameo, this guy on national TV for six months walking by, and they can’t quite place me.” (more) |
