Democratic National Convention Coverage

As I mentioned yesterday, the 57 members of the Iowa delegation will be getting front-row seats at the Democratic National Convention.  That's Kerry's way of saying thanks.  And seated right next to the Iowa delegation, Kerry will be thanking the DLC and the national media for doing in the campaign of Howard Dean.  But, I digress.

In order to enhance your convention viewing pleasure, I have placed a white X where Iowa will be seated.  Near the top of the blurry graphic (sorry about that), directly above the Iowa delegation and slightly to the left, there is a cream-colored curved shape.  That is the stage.

C-Span will carry live, gavel-to-gavel coverage of the convention, so look for our people there.  The convention runs from Monday, July 26, to Thursday, July 29.  If I ever find out for sure when Dean and Kucinich are speaking, I'll let you know.  It will probably be Monday or Tuesday.

According to the New York Times, "Democratic Party rules say [the] delegates should cast their convention vote 'in all good conscience (to) reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.'  However, they aren't bound to vote for any candidate at the convention. That means delegates for the dropouts -- or even Kerry -- are free to support someone else, regardless of whether their candidate has released them."

Blog for Iowa hopes to have reports from the convention floor from time to time from 4th District Dean Delegate, Darrell Lewis.
