A Message from VerifiedVoting.org

VerifiedVoting.org invites you to join us in lobbying the U.S. Congress for reliable and publicly verifiable elections systems in Washington, D.C., from Friday, April 23, to Wednesday, April 28, 2004.  We're looking for organizers and concerned citizens who can meet us in Washington to seek rapid action on verified voting from the federal legislature.  Join us for any or all of that time.

We will meet with legislators to get federal bills passed to require a voter-verified paper ballot.  [We need support for the hotly-contested Senate bill S1980 or similar legislation and for House bill HR2239, which already has over 130 co-sponsors.]

Click here to send an instant fax to Senators Harkin and Grassley.  (In support of S1980)

Click here to send an instant fax to your representative in the House.  (In support of HR2239)

It’s fast, free, and easy!  The letter is written for you.  Just fill in your name and address, mark "Send A Fax," and submit.

This is an urgent time to get action as quickly as possible.

IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW (FROM ANY STATE!!!) is interested in participating in one of the most exciting processes there is--meeting in the nation's capital with your elected representatives--please let us know as soon as possible.

* We'll make appointments with federal legislators who have not yet signed on as co-sponsors of the federal verified-voting bills.

* We'll urge them to do so and to help get the bills onto the floor for a vote as quickly as possible.

* If they don't commit on the spot, we'll leave a few "talking points" with them and set a follow-up call.

* We'll attend a legislative committee hearing if it remains scheduled on April 28.

--AND--

* We'll seek to meet with the chairpersons and as many members as possible of the two committees, House and Senate, that have oversight for these bills.

No one will have to go alone to any appointment and we will provide a comprehensive training on how to lobby, as well as information to bring along when visiting legislators. We may be able to locate housing for some out-of-towners as well.  If you or someone you know-- from any state-- can meet in Washington, D.C., we'll connect with them and join them on their appointments too if possible. The more the merrier.

We are seeking regional volunteers to help coordinate the appointments, so let us know if you're well-organized and have lots of time between now and the end of April.

If you are interested, please sign up to volunteer at http://www.verifiedvoting.org/joinus_step1.asp then select the "Contact Congresspeople" item on the form and specify "April 2004 Lobby Days" in the Comments section. If you have trouble signing up using the form, just send an email to VerifiedVoting.org (click).
