1) We welcome submissions from a progressive point of view, and are particularly interested in submissions relating to the progressive movement in Iowa. Topics of interest are: Iowa politics Calls to Action Bush Tax Candidates Choice Civil Liberties Clean Elections DeanCorps Dean News Dean Rapid Response - Iowa Democrats DFQC Draft Economy/Jobs Education Environment Farming GLBT Health Care & Medicare Humor ICCI Iowa Fair Trade Iowa in the News Labor Local Events Media Bias Meet Up Organic Foods & Farming Progressive Community Project Myth Breaker Tools Verified Voting Vote Fraud Voter-owned Iowa 2) Submissions should be no longer than 700 words. You may have a 6,000-word article that you feel is excellent, but we simply do not have the time to proof and edit such long articles. If you do have something of length, please revise it into smaller parts, each part no longer than 700 words, and each part standing on its own. Please submit your article in the form of an attached Word doc to Sam Garchik, Editor, at blog2@democracyforiowa.com. 3) Language is important, especially when we are part of the fight against the GOP-dominated mass media. We do not wish to repeat or give any validity to the GOP memes, such as "win the peace." Before you submit your work, please read the work of George Lakoff on framing the progressive message. You can find some of that information here. Framing The Message *UC Berkeley professor George Lakoff tells how conservatives use language to dominate politics Simple Framing *A step-by-step guide on how to frame progressive issues, by George Lakoff 4) Blog for Iowa uses certain language conventions. Please, never refer to the junta puppet as “President Bush.” If you are quoting someone who uses the heinous term, then change the spelling to this: pResident Bush. Even better, change it to this: [Bush] If you are not quoting, then avoid the term “president” altogether. If you do need to use it, then use the spelling convention “pResident.” Refer to Bush as: Bush George W. Bush The junta puppet The pseudo-pResident Or anything else you can think of that does not validate the theft of the presidency. 5) Blog for Iowa does not report or refer to acts of violence of any kind. Blog for Iowa wishes to report, rather, on the truth behind the violence and not about the violence itself, which only serves to distract us from the truth, and which is available on almost every other news website on the face of the earth. 6) Blog for Iowa reserves the right to edit your submissions for content or tone, or to not use your submission at all if we deem it inappropriate. Just because we have used your articles before does not mean that we will accept all of your submissions. All publications, including Blog for Iowa, ask their contributors to follow guidelines. 7) Blog for Iowa does not pay our writers. Thank you. Sam Garchik, Editor |
