WANTED: Fallon for Governor POLITICAL ORGANIZER Ed Fallon, seven term state representative serving the central city of Des Moines, is running for governor. The primary election will be June 6, 2006. Fallon is known for championing the rights of people marginalized by the political status quo. A fiscal conservative and social progressive, Fallon has never taken contributions from corporate interests, lobbyists, or PACs. While being outspent by a 2:1 margin in two of his legislative races, Fallon has won all of them by substantial margins. The underpinning strategy for these victories has been his hard-nosed grassroots campaigning based at the precinct level. This unconventional, “bottom-up” organizing philosophy is the hallmark of his gubernatorial campaign. The overall responsibility of the Organizer will be to develop regional and local precinct organizing drives. POSITION CAN BE FULL OR PART TIME The starting date for this position will be September 1, 2005 and will run through June 11, 2006. Work Description: 1) Manage precinct organizing with active volunteers; 2) Recruit and support volunteers for precinct organizing; 3) Concurrent with #1 & #2, recruit known Fallon supporters to attend January, ’06, Iowa caucuses (governor’s race is crowded to degree that any one candidate may not garner the requisite 35% of the primary vote, thereby necessitating a special nominating convention. Nominee will be determined by January caucus participants). Qualifications for Political Organizer position: 1) Experience in organizing: electoral, community, issue or coalition based; 2) Passionate about working for a winning progressive, grassroots based state-wide campaign; 3) Evening and Saturday work a must. Willing to work some 50 – 60 hours per week. Forty hour work weeks will be standard; 4) Extremely well organized, attention for detail; 5) Computer savvy; 6) Willing to travel; 7) Flexibility a must; 8) Comfortable with a lot of phone work; 9) Able to work at least two days/week out of Des Moines office, and; 10) Spanish speaking a plus. Salary & benefits: 1) $1,000 - $1,500 per month (depending on experience and need); 2) Stipend for health insurance; 3) Work with committed and passionate candidate, campaign staff, and volunteers; 4) Learn aspects of developing and implementing statewide grassroots campaign, and; 5) Be part of a winning campaign. To apply: Fallon for Governor 1135 10th St. Des Moines, IA 50311 Attention: Kyle Lobner or e-mail: ffgkyle@gmail.com |
