Sally Vitamvas Concludes 106-mile Run Through District

See Sally Run!  Sally Vitamvas greets supporters as she
arrives in Council Bluffs at the end of her month-long run.
That's her dad, Norman Van Sickle, seated in front.

Last weekend in Council Bluffs, more than 150 supporters wearing Vitamvas for Iowa House t-shirts welcomed Sally Vitamvas, candidate for the Iowa Legislature, as she concluded her 106.2-mile run through District 98.

Vitamvas, challenger for Iowa House District 98 seat, concluded the run through all 11 cities in her district, which includes central Pottawattamie County and western Mills County, on Sunday, October 10th, at 3:00 PM. The circuit, which began on September 13th, took her from Pacific Junction, through Glenwood, Silver City, Mineola, Treynor, Macedonia, Carson, Oakland, Minden, Quick, McClelland, and finally, into Council Bluffs.

Vitamvas says covering the district on foot allowed her to meet individuals in the mostly rural district not usually targeted by most campaigns, and gave her a comprehensive view of the district, in addition to garnering for her important name recognition.

Local Iowa Governments Taken Advantage of by White House

by Darrell Lewis

National Public Radio documents how thousands of Americans have been denied access illegally to Presidential and Vice Presidential events.  Unless an event is called a campaign event and fully paid for by the campaign, persons CANNOT legally be denied access.

However, in this piece NPR documents the requirements to sign "loyalty oaths" and threats of arrest.

The Vice Presidential appearance of Dick Cheney in Clear Lake clearly meets the test of a campaign event because the general public was denied access.  The failure to re-imburse the Cities of Clear Lake and Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa State Highway Patrol, Clear Lake School District and other public agencies is simply wrong and an abuse of our local governments and misuse of our state and local tax dollars.

The story documents how local law enforcement agencies and local governments are told by the White House what to do, even though it is wrong and they have no authority to do so.
