Iowa's New Bohemia Solar Project
by Cliff Day
A group of enthusiastic volunteers recently completed installation of
the LARGEST PHOTOVOLTAIC ARRAY EVER CONSTRUCTED IN IOWA (7,200 Watt) in
the New Bohemia neighborhood of Cedar Rapids (3rd Street and 10th
Avenue SE). This project was made possible by collaboration between the
Iowa Renewable Energy Association (I-RENEW), Alliant Energy, The City
of Cedar Rapids, the Thorland Company, Plan B, and the Iowa Department
of Natural Resources. Funding was provided by the U.S. Department of
Energy. This new photovoltaic array will provide power to Alliant
Energy's Second Nature renewable energy program customers and serve as
an educational resource on renewable energy for the community.
The New Bohemia Solar Project in Cedar Rapids. (Look at the
chem trails criss-crossing the sky in the background!)
The New Bohemia Solar Project was completed under the technical
guidance of Dennis Pottratz of Go Solar. Mr. Pottratz is one of Iowa's
foremost experts on installation of solar and wind energy equipment.
The project manager is Rich Dana of Plan B. Mr. Dana is a renewable
energy consultant who is currently serving as the Iowa renewable energy
outreach coordinator for the Union of Concerned Scientists. The project
was organized as two three-day workshops that provided the volunteers
both classroom instruction on photovoltaic design and actual hands-on
installation experience. For more information on the project, you may
contact Mr. Dana at: (319) 530-6051 or by e-mail at rich@gotoplanb.net.
The project will be formally dedicated on Friday, September 9, by Peter
Dreyfuss, Director of the Chicago Region of the U.S. Department of
Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency andRenewable Energy. On
Saturday, September 10, Mr. Dreyfus will be keynote speaker at
I-RENEW's Energy Expo 2005 at the Prairiewoods Franciscan Center in
Hiawatha, Iowa just north of Cedar Rapids. Mr. Pottratz will also be hosting introductory
photovoltaic workshops at Energy Expo 2005.

Latham Betrays Iowa, Spreads Misinformation re Ethanol

Latham Betrays Iowa, Spreads Misinformation re Ethanol
by Randall Rolph, Nashua, Iowa
Republican Betrayal
A look
at the gas pump and the quagmire in Iraq conveys what most Americans
now believe: betrayal by the Republicans. And the Energy Bill recently
signed by Bush is one more example of that betrayal.
While
prices at the pump continue to rise and while most Americans are being
squeezed, close inspection of the Energy Bill demonstrates the
disconnect of Republicans with the people. Rather than craft an Energy
Bill that places an emphasis on energy independence, a bill was
delivered and signed that gives tax breaks along with millions of
taxpayer dollars to the Oil Companies. Now the people are paying those
companies through the pump and through our tax dollars.
Adding
insult to injury is Congressman Latham (R) of Iowa. During Latham's
recent stop in Charles City, the congressman was asked about his
support for the energy bill; in particular, the lack of attention and
emphasis on renewable fuels. Congressman Latham's response was astounding as he replied, "Ethanol is harmful to the ozone."
As a
representative of an agriculturally-based economy, as well as the
largest ethanol producing state in America, Latham's remarks and
attempt to disseminate misinformation regarding ethanol and its effect
on the ozone are outrageous. Not only are his remarks outrageous but an
insult to the constituents he has been sent to Washington to represent.
A double betrayal.
As
Latham's voting record demonstrates that he is a representative of Tom
Delay and his district of Texas, isn't it time that those of us that
live in the 4th Congressional District of Iowa begin to think about
having a representative that considers the needs of Iowans instead of
those of Tom Delay's Texas?

FDA & CDC Smear Respected Independent Scientists and Researchers

FDA & CDC Smear Respected Independent Scientists and Researchers
By Evelyn Pringle
Online Journal Contributing Writer
In their
public statements, officials within the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), are always claiming
that researchers and scientists who conduct studies not funded by drug
companies or the government are making unfounded claims about a link
between thimerosal-laced vaccines and autism, and other neurological
disorders, which they claim could lead to reduced vaccine coverage,
resulting in preventable outbreaks of disease affecting the entire
planet.
I say cut the crap.
Think
about it. Why would so many highly respected scientists, researchers
and physicians go to such great lengths to concoct bogus studies and
issue false reports, in essence putting their professional reputations
on the line, if their was no connection? I want these officials to do
two things. First I want them to give me one good reason why these
professionals would make this up, and two, I want them to give me one
logical alternative theory for the current epidemic of disorders.
Lets look at a few of these experts.
Dr.
Jeffrey Bradstreet, is a practicing physician who treats children with
autism and other brain-damage disorders. While in the Air Force, he was
trained in toxicology and environmental health. His duties as an
officer included the responsibility for military personnel who had
exposure to a wide variety of toxins, including mercury.
Dr.
Bradstreet has evaluated well over 2,000 children with neurological
disorders. He also directs a school for children with
neurodevelopmental disorders where his responsibilities include
supervising occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists,
and applied behavioral analysts.
Dr.
Bradstreet is a Harvard Certified Medical Education Instructor in
autism and has written three peer reviewed papers regarding the
relationship of thimerosal, developmental disorders and biological
markers for mercury-susceptibility....
In
addition, he has conducted research regarding these disorders and has
worked with some of the most highly respected professionals in the
country....
Apparently
the FDA, CDC, and vaccine makers expect us to believe that this long
line of highly respected professionals from universities all over the
country somehow got together and conspired to conduct fraudulent
research for decades and then authored thousands of false reports and
other papers.
I do not buy it. What would be the payoff?
