35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
By Karen Kubby The Emma Goldman Clinic will be celebrating the 35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade at its annual fundraiser, the Choice Dinner, to be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 from 6-9pm in the second floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union. Tickets are $50, $25 for students, those living on lower incomes, and seniors. Proceeds will go to the deProsse Access Fund which provides financial subsidies for women living on lower incomes seeking abortion services. RSVP deadline is Tuesday, January 22. Tickets are $60/$30 after the RSVP date. This year's keynote speaker is Judy Norsigian, the Executive Director of the Boston Women's Health Book Collective, the writers, editors and publishers of Our Bodies, Ourselves. A co-founder of the Collective and co-author of all editions of Our Bodies, Ourselves, Judy is a graduate of Radcliffe College and an internationally renowned speaker and writer on a wide range of women's health concerns. Her interests include national health care reform, tobacco and women, midwifery advocacy, reproductive health, genetic technologies, and contraceptive research. She has appeared on numerous television and radio programs including Oprah, Donahue, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. Judy's presentation is co-sponsored by the Johnson County League of Women Voters, Iowa City chapter of the National Organization of Women (NOW), the Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC), Peggy and Marc Mills, and the Brown Street Inn. The event is in collaboration with the Iowa Medical Aid Fund. The Fund is a volunteer organization that raises money to help fund abortion care to women receiving services in Iowa. The radical cheerleaders, a group made up of mostly members of the UI's chapter of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, will perform. This event will include a social hour, dinner, and program. Table sponsors are available in the categories of Emma-nence ($500 for a table of 8), Emma-sary ($300 for four tickets), and Emmilicious ($150 for two tickets). For tickets or information, contact the Emma Goldman Clinic at (319) 337-2112 or visit the web site. |
