JOESBRAIC to be Held Next Weekend in IC

By Joe Bolkcom

Dear Friends,

I am hosting a family leisure ride to celebrate our existing local recreational trails and the cooperative effort between city, county, state, federal officials and advocates to create even more.

Trails provide facilities that make our community a great place to live and stay in shape. They also provide transportation routes for bicycle and pedestrian commuters. We must continue to plan for and invest in these community amenities.  I applaud the Johnson County Board of Supervisors for beginning the process of designing and finishing the Dubuque Street Trail to the North Liberty City limits.

Joe's Bike Ride Around Iowa City (JOESBRAIC) will occur on Saturday, October 14, 2006, 11:00 AM starting at Lower City Park, Boat Ramp Parking Area, Iowa City.

The ride will follow sections of the Iowa River Corridor Trail, the Sycamore Greenway Trail, the Highway 6 Trail, and the Scott Blvd. multi-use wide sidewalks.  Sections of the ride will be on streets where no trail currently exists.  The ride will have a brief stop and program at the Johnson County Administration Building and end at my home 728 2nd Avenue, Iowa City. with refreshments.  Ride mileage includes turn around spots to shorten the total length.  Riders assume all risks of riding public trails and streets.

All are welcome.  There are 3, 7, and 15 mile routes.  The 3 and 7 mile routes are on trails.

No registration necessary, but donations for the Iowa City Bike Library will gladly be accepted.

Please RSVP if you plan to ride or attend.

Thanks.

NRCC Ads Backing Lamberti are Funded by Alleged Sexual Predator Republican Congressman

By Mark Daley

One more note on this topic:  Jim Nussle's senior counsel, Pete Jeffries, was communications director for Dennis Hastert as late as spring 2005. It would be appropriate to call on him to explain what he knew and when, and what part he played in the cover up. Here's a news release from 2005 with Jeffries as the contact person:http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=42546

DES MOINES - The Boswell for Congress campaign demanded that the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) take down advertisements in the Third District until $100,000 in donations made by Republican congressman and alleged sexual predator Mark Foley are returned. In the debate between Boswell and Lamberti last evening, Jeff Lamberti said, "We should have a zero tolerance policy for these kinds of actions [Foley's alleged sexual interactions with minors]."

"If Jeff Lamberti really has a zero tolerance policy for support of sexual predators, he should get the Foley-funded, Lamberti-backing NRCC ads taken down," said Mark Daley, a Boswell spokesperson.

The Boswell campaign also called on the Lamberti campaign to return at least $21,000 in campaign contributions from the NRCC until the funds donated by the alleged sexual predator are returned. To date, the NRCC has refused to return Foley's donation.

"If the NRCC continues to refuse to return the Foley funding, Jeff Lamberti should demand that the attack ads funded by an alleged sexual predator be taken down, and return their campaign donation," Daley said.

NRCC Refuses to Return Alleged Sex Offender Foley's $100,000 Contribution. "For the record, Reynolds' NRCC is not giving back Foley's contributions and spokesman Carl Forti has said the committee would be happy to receive the $2.7 million that Foley's campaign account had on hand at the end of August." [ Houston Chronicle , 10/3/06]

NRCC is Running Attack Ads in the Third District Backing Jeff Lamberti. According to television ad buy records, the NRCC has secured approximately $1.1 million in television ad buys in the Third District. [Various sources]

Lamberti's Campaign Took $21,000 in Campaign Donations (as of July 24, 2006) from the NRCC. According to the Federal Election Commission Web site, the Lamberti for Congress took $21,000 in campaign contributions from the NRCC on July 24, 2006. [FEC Web site]

Help a Good Guy Get Into the House!

I usually don't run appeals from individual state campaigns, but this one is important. Let's make sure there are no political dynasties in Iowa, and stop the Grassley machine now!

Alek Wipperman needs your help! Alek is runing for State Representative against Pat Grassley (Sen. Grassley's grandson that has 98% of his funding coming from Washington).

Alek is from Waverly originally, graduated with honors from Wartburg College, and is ready to take his ideas and Iowa values to Des Moines!

He is in District 17, which is up by Waterloo...its all of Butler and half of Bremer County.

He does have a website. Its www.wippermanforiowa.com

Governor Mark Warner is giving the top 5 Iowa House candidates get anywhere from $1,000-$5,000 for getting the most votes on his MapChangers site (http://www.forwardtogetherpac.com/iowa).

You dont have to sign up for anything, just give them your email, and thats it youre done...well click Alek for State House and Bill Heckroth for State Senate.  You can vote for your state representative candidate too, you just cant vote for the same person twice.

This will take you less than a minute and I would really appreciate it if you did it!

It's time for a fresh start for Iowa. At 22 years of age, Alek will bring a fresh voice, full of the voters of his district and the values that he was raised by to Des Moines.

www.wippermanforiowa.com,

Please vote for him on Warner's Page.
