Romney: I want Rep. Steve King ‘as my partner in Washington’

Mitt Romney stated these words at Northwestern college in Iowa Friday.

Normally I would not care, but this Romney guy simply lies every time he opens his mouth. Steve, friend to friend, me to you –  Romney is probably lying to you. He lies to every one. Ask Professor Gingerich  - Romney lies.

I’d hate to see a fellow Iowan be dumped by this guy. Call it off before it is too late. He’ll break your heart. Iowans should have enough sense not to hook up with people this scurrilous.

Robert Reich On Romney

I am a fan of Robert Reich. In this article Reich is interviewed by Joan Brunwasser of Citizen’s for Election Reform (CER). Ms. Brunwasser asks the question of Reich that many of us ask over and over to almost anyone – How does Romney get away with the constant lying? This is an excerpt. Please click the link to read the full (and quite interesting) article.

My guest today is Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy at UCal Berkeley, Robert Reich. Welcome to OpEdNews, Robert. You’ve been writing a lot lately about the many shortcomings of Mitt Romney. Your latest piece essentially calls him out for his constant lying. All candidates exaggerate and stretch the truth. Aren’t you being a little harsh?

To the contrary, I may not have been harsh enough. While every presidential race is guilty of exaggeration, to some extent, and some have told half-truths, I’m aware of no previous presidential candidate or campaign that has told such brazen lies — which the media have reported as false — and yet continued to tell them even after having been outed. Romney’s and Ryan’s repeated claims that President Obama ended the work requirement in welfare, and that the Affordable Care Act reduces Medicare payments to beneficiaries — to take but two examples — are outright lies. They’ve been called “falsehoods” by the New York Times, “misstatements” by USA Today, and “wrong” by numerous non-partisan fact-checking organizations and sites. But Romney and Ryan continue to tell them, and use them copiously in their ads.

So, how do they get away with it? Once, such lying that could have precipitated the downfall of a candidate.

They’re getting away with it because the GOP has figured out how to bypass all neutral fact-checkers, the mainstream media, and any other trusted, non-partisan source. They’ve done this by, first, raising a huge amount of money through a network of super PACs and political nonprofits that’s being spent on negative ads — so many ads that the public can’t differentiate between truth and falsehood; second, by discrediting the mainstream media in the eyes of many Americans; and third, by using a disinformation industry composed of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and his various wanna-be’s, the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal, and the right-wing blogosphere to legitimize their lies or at least give them a patina of respectability.

Sunday Funday – Gummint Wasted Project Edition

Thank goodness the Republican Party has straightened me out on a couple of things. I once thought that government projects may actually do some good. But now thanks to the miracle of television I have been exposed to the truth – everything that government (or gummint if you prefer) does is wrong and evil. So I been looking back to see just what kind of evil gummint has done in this country. And just who the evil-doer was.

I am going to name the evil monstrous gummint project and you name the head evil doer what started it. Or president if you wish.

1) Boulder Dam

2) Interstate Highway System

3) Grand Coulee Dam

4) Panama Canal

5) Lewis and Clark Expedition

6) Kennedy Space Center

7) Tennesee Valley Authority

8) Strategic Defense Initiative

9) Rural Electrification

10) The American Embassy in Baghdad

11) Nationwide Internet and Wireless Connection Project.

Hahah! What a bunch of money wasting boondoggles. I am surely glad I have learned that gummin projects = waste!
Answers? You got your hand out for something free?

1) Also known as Hoover Dam, it was, yep, Herbert Hoover.

2) That spendthrift Dwight Eisenhower. But the interstates were built for national Defense purposes? What a scam. Biggest public works project ever.

3) The big spender himself, Franklin Roosevelt. Bet he shows up more than once.

4) Aha! Roosevelt again – oops cousin Teddy Roosevelt. FDR will show up again, the big spender.

5) Thomas Jefferson? The gummint spent money back then?

6) Eisenhower? Was anybody watching that dude?

7) Aha! Roosevelt. Yes FD Roosevelt!

8) Reagan? He spent money? Yep big time and apparently pretty foolishly as this was a huge boondoggle.

9) FD Roosevelt. Grrrr! He’s making me angry.

10) George W. Bush – but hold on – a huge project in some other country? doesn’t he understand how boondoggling works?

11) No one and probably never. Just because other countries do it and it makes sense is no reason for us to.
