Help Francis Thicke Win: Enter Happy Cow Video Contest

Iowans Can Help Francis Thicke Beat Bill Northey

[BFIA Editor's Note:  Bill Northey had to resort to a smear campaign to beat Denise O'Brien 51-49% in 2006.  In a statement released today, Francis Thicke says the massive recall of Iowa-produced eggs exposed vulnerabilities in the industrial food system, while his opponent, remains "noticeably silent."  It is past time for Iowa to elect a Secretary of Agriculture who can lead our state to a sustainable future. Here's a way you can help...letters to the editor are also good.]

Friends of Francis Thicke

Watch the one-minute Happy Cow Video

Friends of Francis Thicke are citizens like you, who care about the economic and environmental sustainability  of our country. We are a loose affiliation of creative individuals who have come together to find “out-of-the-box” solutions to help spread the word about Francis and to inspire younger generations in Iowa  to vote and send a message to the entire world that we care about our food and the systems that produce it.  It’s not very often that we’re lucky enough to have such a perfect candidate running for Secretary of Agriculture here in Iowa, BUT he’s up against a candidate backed by corporate agri-business, so he needs all the grassroots support he can get.

So we're making this a NATIONAL ELECTION!

A fan of Francis, musician  Arthur Lee Land who lives in Fairfield Iowa, wrote, recorded and co-produced the “Happy Cow” song. Another fan came up with the idea for a music video contest, then another fan agreed to sponsor the contest, then more volunteered to help promote the contest and then amazing celebrity filmmakers, authors and actors were asked to help by serving as judges for the contest and now you can help by making your own Happy Cow Music Video!

Now you might be thinking: “What do I care, I don’t live in Iowa?”

Well, what we do here in Iowa affects everyone in regards to food, farming, food safety and agricultural policy. In fact, Iowa’s influence is actually on a global level as is everything we do here in America.
Below are some reasons why you might want to consider entering the Happy Cow Music Video Contest besides the fact that the Happy Cow song rocks, there's $2500 in prizes and celebrity judge panel featuring: filmmaker David Lynch, author Michael Pollan, actor Stephen Collins and King Corn filmmaker Aaron Woolf.

Five Reasons Francis Thicke Rocks

   1. He’s a great guy!
   2. He walks the talk – he owns and operates an 80 cow sustainable, organic dairy farm in Fairfield, Iowa (his milk is magically delicious!).
   3. He holds a Ph.D in Agronomy and Soil Science and has worked for the USDA as Program Leader in Soil Science.
   4. He’s a highly respected expert and author of A New Vision for Iowa Food and Agriculture: Sustainable Agriculture for the 21st Century.
   5. His campaign focuses on solutions for issues of safe food, economic and environmental sustainability, humane and responsible livestock production and sustainable crop production.
